NovasArc

Nordic project on vulnerable marine ecosystems and anthropogenic activities in Arctic and sub-Arctic waters

NovasArc is a research project aiming to map the distribution of Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems (VMEs) in Norwegian, Icelandic and Faroese waters, as well as in other areas of the Greenland and Norwegian seas. The project aims to map the distribution of commercial fisheries and other human activities as well, and identify possible conflict areas. The project also has the objective of enhancing the cooperation among scientists of the participating nations. The project, planned for the period 2016-2018, is lead by the Institute of Marine Research (Norway), with the participation of the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute (Iceland) and the Faroe Marine Research Institute (Faroe Islands).

NovasArc is supported by the Marine Group HAV and the Working Group for Fisheries (AG-Fisk) of the Nordic Counsel of Ministers.
